days of competition. Manfred Zojer, president of the Austrian Speed
Skating Association, says: "Everything went perfect. I want to
give sincere thanks to the city of Vienna, that assisted us greatly.
The participating nations were all enthusiastic about the new style
in which organized this event. The ice rink, the track for warming-up,
everything was perfect. Now we are looking forward to the next major
events taking place in Austria, the Speed Skating Euro in Innsbruck
2011 and the Youth Olympics in 2012."
On the first day of competition, circa 1.000 spectators came to the
Ferry-Dusika-Stadion, on Saturday 1.200 and on Sunday 2.500. "Much
more than at the last World championships in Vienna 1998", says
Zojer. General Sectretary Alexander Zimmermann is also satiesfied. "There
were no problems. The ice rink was very fast, we got only positive feedback
from the athletes and the International Skating Union."
